Message From The President

Greetings!

On behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors of the Philippine Society of Gastroenterology, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website.

I would also like to update you on our various planned activities for this year. We will continue as well as complete the various projects and programs of our Immediate Past President Dr. Diana A. Payawal and carry out new scientific and civic action activities and advocacies.

First and foremost, our 2012 PDHW-PSG-PSDE-HSP Joint Annual Convention which is chaired by our First Vice-President Dra. Marichona C. Naval will be held on March 7-9, 2012 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel while our PSG Midyear Convention for this year chaired by our Second Vice-President Dr. Joseph C. Bocobo will be on October 14-16, 2011 at the Avenue Plaza Hotel in Naga City. The theme this year is “Ambulatory Care for the Gut.” Aside from the usual scientific sessions, we will have a medical mission and free endoscopy clinic as well as several exciting and enjoyable social activities.

The Committee on Civic Action chaired by our PRO Dr. Frederick T. Dy has chosen our indigenous Aeta community in Pampanga to be the beneficiaries of our Hepatitis-B Vaccination Program. Aside from this they have incorporated a nutrition education program for the inhabitants in cooperation with the PSG Nutrition Council. We will continue with our Potable Water Supply Program (POWS) and the recipients will be the same Aeta Community as well as a Mangyan Community in Mindoro.

On the scientific front, the Research Committee chaired by Dr. Jane R. Campos in cooperation with the Committee on Councils of Dr. Quintin Babaran will work on the development of a Consensus Guidelines on Non-Variceal Upper GI Bleeding. We’ll also be doing a survey of the five most common GI Malignancies and five most common GI Diseases to be participated by our members.

The Scientific Committee chaired by Dr. Luis E. Abola will be conducting 2-3 regional post graduate courses and the committee is coming up with new and interesting lecture topics relevant to the CME needs of the medical practitioners in the provinces. They are also planning to conduct ECHO Conference wherein we will be inviting members who attended International Conventions to give a short talk regarding updates on interesting GI topics.

The Committee on Training chaired by Dr. Higinio T. Mappala will continue with the regular Fellows Evaluation Examination (FEE) and they are planning to conduct seminars on how to do a good lecture presentation and how to scan the web for graded literatures using techniques recommended by the WGO.

Dr. Roy R. Gonzales is the chairman of the Committee on Constitutions and By-Laws and he is tasked to inform all our members of the newly approved amendments as well as to study our constitution further and make recommendations to make it relevant to the changing times.

The Ways and Means Committee is chaired by our Treasurer Dr. Dina C. Gonzales who is working hard to take care of our finances as well as solicit support from our partners in the Pharmaceutical and BioMedical Industries. Our secretariat and the Committee on Membership is under the care of our Secretary Dr. Peter P. Sy and we do hope that we can come up with our new ID Card soon.

Last but not the least, our Committee on Nominations and Awards is chaired by Dr. Diana A. Payawal and her projects include coming up with some innovations in our election process as well as give award and recognition to some distinguished members of our society.

The Council on GI Malignancy headed by Dr. Jaime G. Ignacio is very active in conducting lectures to the Medical and Lay Community regarding our advocacy on Colorectal Cancer Prevention in partnership with Pfizer Consumer Health Care, while the Nutrition Council chaired by Dr. Yvonne Mina is also holding regional Nutrition Seminars.

We are also conducting a quarterly Tripartite Executive Agenda Meeting (TEAM) in partnership with our sister societies PSDE and HSP to stream line and coordinate some of the activities of the three societies.

We hope that with your prayers and support we will be able to accomplish our tasks for this year. God bless
